It was a short and spontaneous trip for three days, and we only touched a little of Wales. However, we managed to visit a giant park, hike, look into an incredible castle, and interact with alpacas.

  1. We made a quick stop in Marlborough, the loveliest town, which has convenient parking and many shops for lunch. We were delighted to find a beautiful creek near which we had lunch.
  2. We unexpectedly found Avebury Henge and Stone Circles; it looked like a tiny Stonehenge. It is located just in the centre of the field, and it’s delightful to see how that strange monument is inscribed in the simple life and the harvesting. If you are interested, I advise you to read the short historical background about this place.
  1. Little Whitelands Farm is just an awe. It is a stone detached house in a field on a small farm surrounded by green lawns. Amazingly, you can feed alpacas wandering just next to the window, and the host gave us food for them. The most fantastic experience for me was reading the book in the chair and contemplating the tremendous view. The whole farm is available for walking, but you could accidentally bump into the sheep herd.

Bannau Brycheiniog National Park was the central point of our trip. We chose the Pen y Fan trail, even though there was one more alluring hike with many waterfalls and rapids.

You start your walk at the foot of the mountain, and then you will have a very long path up to the peak, but it’s worth it. Rain clouds are expected at the summit, so wear waterproof clothing to protect yourself from sudden storms. It happened to us; the wind almost knocked the phone out of my hands, but being inside a raging cloud was a fantastic experience.

Then we had the choice to descend to the lake or finish the trail coming back to the parking. We decided to come back. However, if you have 1.5 extra hours it’s might be worth going. By the way, some people were swimming there despite the temperature of the water.

  1. Since it started to rain heavily the next day, we decided not to go to the Puzzle Wood but to visit some less touristic attractions. And the Raglan Castle seemed the best option.

To be honest, we didn’t regret it. The castle has a long history, and it stands ruined since the time of Cromwell, but it didn’t ruin the impression. Partially destroyed castle provides an opportunity to play out the imagination and finish drawing the halls and rooms. Places from fireplaces, staircases, huge windows and even a petanque field have been preserved and look charming.

  2. On the way back, we decided to pass the Clifton Suspension Bridge, which is the hallmark of Bristol. We liked both the outskirts and the city centre. The only thing that surprised me was the large number of not old but new or 20-year-old buildings.
